Intraocular Lens Power Measurements for Cataract Surgery

East Valley Ophthalmology is world renowned for intraocular lens power calculations in unusual situations, especially after LASIK or RK, or for determining the appropriate premium lens implant. Patients are referred to us by other eye surgeons for these calculations prior to cataract surgery. Our practice has technologically advanced equipment and methodologies that many other practices do not. If you have received a referral for this service it is mostly likely due to something atypical about your eyes, which makes standard methods of measurement unreliable or the calculations difficult.

Examples of such conditions —

  • Variable axial length readings
  • An inability to obtain axial length readings
  • Significant difference between right and left eye measurements
  • Prior keratorefractive surgery (LASIK, RK, PRK , CK, LASEK)
  • Prior retinal detachment with, or without, a scleral buckle
  • Eyes containing silicone oil
  • Eyes that are very farsighted or very nearsighted
  • Prior ocular trauma
  • Mature cataracts, with no view of the back of the eye
For your lens power calculations —
  • Your eyes will be measured using the latest advancements in state-of-the-art technology.
  • The IOL power calculations will be carried out by Dr. Hill personally.
  • A detailed report will be sent to your referring physician with copies of all data.

For intraocular lens power calculations, Dr. Hill only sees patients when asked to do so by other eye surgeons. And this is only when the measurements are either technically too difficult, or the intraocular lens power calculations are mathematically too complex to be carried out by a general ophthalmologist.

Dr. Hill is a Medicare provider. Our office will submit a claim for those services covered by Medicare, but for any non-covered Medicare services, it is customary for payment to be made on the day of your visit.

For other heath plans, a visit with Dr. Hill will likely be considered "out of network" and may also require prior authorization if you are to be reimbursed by your insurance carrier. we will provide you with the necessary insurance forms to send to your health plan, but it is customary for payment to be made on the day of your visit.
