When Another Physician Refers You to EVO

Intraocular lens power measurements

East Valley Ophthalmology is renowned worldwide for its expertise in intraocular lens power calculations in complex situations. Patients are often referred to us by other eye surgeons for IOL power calculations before various forms of eye surgery.

Suppose you have received a referral for our eye care services. In that case, it is most likely due to something atypical about your eyes that makes standard measurement methods unreliable or the calculations difficult. Examples of such conditions include:

  • Variable axial length readings
  • An inability to obtain axial length readings
  • A significant difference between right and left eye measurements
  • Prior keratorefractive surgery (LASIK, RK, PRK, CK, LASEK)
  • Prior retinal detachment with or without a scleral buckle
  • Eyes containing silicone oil
  • Eyes that are very farsighted or very nearsighted
  • Prior ocular trauma
  • Mature cataracts, with no view of the back of the eye

Your lens power calculations:

  1. Your eyes will be measured using the latest advancements in state-of-the-art technology.
  2. Dr. Hill will personally perform the IOL power calculations.
  3. A detailed report, along with copies of all relevant data, will be sent to your referring physician.

Payments

For intraocular lens power calculations, Dr. Hill only sees patients when asked to do so by other eye surgeons. This is only when the measurements are technically too challenging or the intraocular lens power calculations are mathematically too complex for a general ophthalmologist to carry out.

Dr. Hill is a Medicare provider. Our office will submit a claim for services covered by Medicare. However, payment for any non-covered Medicare services is due on the day of your visit.

For other health plans, a visit with Dr. Hill will likely be considered “out of network” and may also require prior authorization to be reimbursed by your insurance carrier. We will provide you with the necessary insurance forms to submit to your health plan; however, payment is your responsibility on the day of your visit.

Please contact us if you have any questions about our intraocular lens power calculation services.
